Quotes
BATMAN DODGES THE THUG'S BLOWS AND CATCHES ONE OF THIEF
CROWBARS IN MID SWING.
BAT-DUPLICANT: Pathetic.
--
ROSSUM: I don't built life anymore, Batman. I just grow it.
BATMAN: I'm sorry. I know how painful it can be to dig up the past.
ROSSUM: Then please, leave me alone. Let me get on with my life.
--
BAT-DUPLICANT: We've got to find my real body or transfer me to another
robot shell.
ROSSUM: You don't understand. You're not a man's mind in a robot's body.
You're a robot. Period.
BAT-DUPLICANT: You're lying! It's not possible! I know my family and
friends! I remember names, faces, birthdays! I have memories! A past!
ROSSUM: You have information. Data. Nothing more. Do you remember your
first kiss? Your favorite song? The last time you tasted a really good
steak?
BAT-DUPLICANT: No, but--
ROSSUM: Can you remember anything beyond cold, hard facts? Facts can be
implanted, accessed from any number of sources.
--
BAT-DUPLICANT: We will begin the replacement process with Batman.
--
BAT-DUPLICANT: I cannot function as the Batman until you are
deactivated.
BATMAN: That's easier said than done.
--
ALFRED: Master Bruce, I'm so glad you're back! What became of your evil
twin?
BATMAN'S EYES GLOW RED.
BAT-DUPLICANT: It's all been taken care of, Alfred. There is only one
Batman now.
ALFRED: Oh good lord!
--
ALFRED: Master Bruce! Thank heaven you're alive!
BAT-DUPLICANT: Impossible! You could not have survived the fall.
BATMAN: We humans are more resilient than you give us credit for.
--
BAT-DUPLICANT: HARDAC is reborn in the very image of the man who
destroyed him!
--
BAT-DUPLICANT: Why do you resist? HARDAC's goals are similar to your
own!
BATMAN: How do you figure that?
BAT-DUBLICANT: Picture a world completely free of crime, free of
suffering, free of frailty.
BATMAN: You mean free of choice? Compassion? Free of humanity?
BAT-DUPLICANT: YES!
THEY CLASH SWORDS. BATMAN TRIPS ON THE EDGE OF THE ABYSS AND REGAINS
HIMSELF ON THE ROCK. THE DUPLICANT RAISES HIS SWORD BUT DOES NOT MOVE.
BATMAN: You can't do it. HARDAC built you well.
THE DUPLICANT DROPS HIS SWORD.
BATMAN: Perhaps, even better than he could have imagined.
--
BATMAN: Could it be it had a soul, Alfred? A soul of silicon. . . But a
soul, nonetheless.
Review: The magnificent finale
to the HARDAC trilogy. It was confusing at first, but it was supposed to
be. The deal with the real Batman and the robot Batman was soon cleared
up, and the story took off right away. This is a real action episode,
but there was a lot of brilliant dialogue happening at the same time.
Most episodes with evil doubles of characters are horrible, but this was
the greatest of all time. If the idea of a double Batman had to happen,
(which it did), it was great that it happened this way. It was very well
handled and the evil robot had a great plan to make things happen.
The animation was very well done also, especially the capes in the
episode whipping around with the action. There was also some very good
actions handled. The smallest, but one of the nicest, was at the end
when Batman grapples up to the cave and moves around the small lamp pole
protruding out of the cave wall. It was just so natural and real looking
for a minor detail that most animators would not have thought about.
