The World's Finest Presents
Episode #083 - Make 'Em Laugh
Original Airdate - November 5th, 1994

Gotham City is plagued by a rash of crazy crimes all committed by bizarre villains. Batman and Robin investigate, discovering the "criminals" are actually famous comedians brainwashed by the Joker. It seems the comedians had the disguised Joker tossed out of the annual Gotham Comedy Competition the year before and the jealous clown has sworn to destroy their reputations in return.

Quotes
DISPATCHER (over Police Band): Disturbance reported at the top of the Crown restaurant. Suspect is a male costumed extremist armed with what appears to be a . . . Ketchup gun.
BATMAN: It's going to be one of those nights.
--
CONDIMENT KING: So long, suckers! Parting is such sweet and sour sorrow.
THE CONDIMENT KING RUNS AS BATMAN'S GRAPPLE SNAGS HIS LOOT BAG AND PULLS IT TO THE GROUND.
CONDIMENT KING: What's this?
HE LOOKS UP AT BATMAN.
CONDIMENT KING: Ahh! The big bad Bat-guy. I knew you'd ketchup to me sooner or later. How I relished this meeting. You, the dynamic Dark Knight, versus me, the conceptual Condiment King! Come, Batman. Let's see if you can cut the mustard.
BATMAN: Quiet!
BATMAN PUNCHES THE KING IN THE STOMACH. HE FALLS TO THE GROUND GASPING
CONDIMENT KING: You hit me!
--
PACK RAT: Okay, everybody! Empty your pockets! I want gum wrappers, loose string, those little balls of lint. None of that cash stuff!
--
JOKER: These little microchips are a wonder! Remind me to thank the Mad Hatter. . . if he ever wakes up.
--
JOKER: Ain't she sweet? My very own happy homemaker!
MIGHTY MOM: But I don't do windows!
--
MIGHTY MOM: That hurts!
SHE BACKHANDS ROBIN OFF OF HER.
LORAINE: Don't worry, I'm back to normal.
ROBIN: Who can tell?
--
BATMAN: You've hit a new low, Joker. Only you would ruin three lives for a piece of tin.
JOKER: You're dumber than you look, Bats. It's not the trophy that matters, it's the title. I am the greatest clown this dismal burg has ever seen! What would the common folk do without my pranks and antics?
BATMAN: Let's find out.
--
JOKER: Too bad, Batsap, but you should have remembered the old saying: "Dying is easy, comedy is hard!"
--
JOKER: Is there a problem officers?

Review: This was a good idea at the beginning, having nobody's trying to make it big on the crime scene and the citizens of Gotham couldn't care less. I thought it'd be a good episode, then it started to lead to a whole master plot by some mystery man delivering the pizza who sounds a lot like the Joker and wears a purple suit with a large smile. I wonder who that is? It would have been better if Batman and Robin went to Arkham, found the 'gone' Mad Hatter then have Joker kidnap the third comic. Overall, the idea over Joker trying to get into a comedy contest was something that his sick mind would come up with, but it was a bit strange.

The animation was the normal standard for Adventures of Batman & Robin which is quite simply drawn, but nicely animated. The characters maintained their forms, and the new characters looked fairly good considering the were not supposed to be taken seriously.

Two parts in this episode were very nice though that added a sense of timing around when these take place. One - Robin is reading a newspaper that reads "Rally to be held for Gordon", so this episode takes place during Shadow of the Bat part One and Two. Two - In Mighty Mom's apartment when she goes for the door, you can hear Riddler's puzzle commercial giving the map coordinates to Batman and Robin from Riddler's Reform. It's interesting to actually know that different crime sprees happen at the same time and the Dynamic Duo still have time to deal with so many things at once.
