EPISODES - "SAFE"

Beware The Batman
#4 - Safe

Original Airdate - August 3rd, 2013
Introducing the prototype of his newest product to the world – the Ion Cortex, a device capable of solving the world's energy crisis – Bruce Wayne hires brilliant scientist Dr. Jason Burr (Matthew Lillard) to work on the project. The announcement also draws the attention of one of the most dangerous groups in the world – the League of Assassins. When one of the League's deadly assassins, Silver Monkey (James Remar), attacks Wayne Manor to kidnap Burr while Batman's in Gotham, it's up to Alfred and Katana to keep the assassin at bay until Batman's return. But Katana is armed and ready for the task – with her legendary Soultaker Sword, a weapon she stole from the infamous League of Assassins!

Analysis by Yojimbo:

It was good to see everyone get some action - Batman, Tatsu and Alfred - though mainly Tatsu for me because she was in the League. It was a pleasant surprise Silver Monkey was duplicitous at the end instead of revealing everything to Lady Shiva. But it makes sense, he was a dirty fighter - the hidden hand claws, blow darts, gas balls in the face - the gas ball might make for a funny one liner later one (i.e. Batman saying he's had enough). Why the League wants the Ion Cortex... one can only imagine some doomsday device Ra's plans on using to purify the planet indefinitely.

Also, Dr. Burr and Tatsu were a riot especially when she closed the door on him and at the end.

Additional Commentary by Lerkero:

Batman's morals seem to always mess up the moment for me, but I guess that's supposed to be what makes his modern character.

If you ask me, whenever someone tries to commit murder they no longer deserve to live. Police officers deal with this all the time. A suspect pulls a deadly weapon on the police and the police have the right to disable or kill that person by law. Tatsu could have killed that ninja and not have any regrets. This line that Batman speaks of crossing could easily be crossed from both ways. Killing one person out of self defense doesn't automatically turn someone into an insatiable murderer.

- Secret Agent Ninjas could be a very entertaining show.
- I wonder if Wayne Manor has a permit for those missiles.
- I'd think Batman had a way to sneak into Wayne Manor with more than a 28% chance of survival.
- The action is okay but I still love the look of hand drawn animation much more.
- Nope, nothing Batman says convinces me. If Katana would have killed Silver Monkey they would have been much better off physically and morally.
- I could go for a League of Assassin's plotline for the first season. I don't think the other Batman cartoons have done that (unless I missed/forgot it).
