OVERVIEW

The Basics
Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem is a direct-to-video animated superhero film. Released for Digital Download on August 4th, 2015, and then for Blu-ray and DVD on August 18th, 2015, the all-ages animated movie features Batman and a band of DC Comics heroes doing battle against The Joker and a collection of Halloween-based bad guys. The animated film is inspired by the Mattel toyline of the same name and is the follow-up to 2015's Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts.

Synopsis
It's Halloween night in Gotham City and a mysterious crime spree has Batman on the trail of the city's spookiest villains: Scarecrow, Clayface, Silver Banshee and Solomon Grundy. Ruling over these misfits is the clown prince of crime himself, The Joker! Armed with a computer virus and a diabolical plan to unleash "digital laughter" upon Gotham City's technology, only the Dark Knight can stop this gruesome gang. Joining forces with Green Arrow, Cyborg, Nightwing and Red Robin, it's an action-packed race to stop The Joker and save the city. When the sun rises, will it shine upon Gotham City or Jokertown?

History
After a tease of the Batman Unlimited brand name at the 2014 Licensing Expo, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment officially announced the Batman Unlimited animation initiative on January 29th, 2015. Unveiled as part of a new animation/toyline endeavor between Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Animation, Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts was the first installment of what is planned to be an ongoing series of animated programming based on the Mattel toyline of the same name. The initiative includes at least two animated features (including this one - Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem), a series of animated shorts and a mobile app. These projects will be released in conjunction with special action figures tying into said animated content, such as a wave of action figures with accessories, a new Batmobile, and the all-new CybeRex robot dinosaur, all set to be featured in the Batman Unlimited cartoons. Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts was the first official project announced and release, followed by a series of Batman Unlimited shortly afterwards which debuted online over a series of months during the year. The animated shorts, 22 in total, feature heroes, villains and tech all spotlighted in the animated features and toy line. Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem, the second Batman Unlimited animated movie, is the third project for the Batman Unlimited brand.

In terms of tie-ins, DC Comics master costume partner, Rubie's Costumes, will support the Batman Unlimited content with a line of inspired-by dress-up and costumes; and toymaker Thinkway will introduce new Batman Unlimited-themed role-play accessories. Batman Unlimited is also slated to have a major QSR partner in late 2015, with other key categories, such as apparel, to be announced at a later time.

The official announcement for the home video release of Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts, on June 3rd, 2015, provided further details on the movie, including its plot and featured characters.
