EPISODE REVIEWS - "BLUE HOPE"

Green Lantern: The Animated Series
"Blue Hope"

Original Airdate - January 12th, 2013
Hal, Kilowog, and Aya visit the Blue Lantern planet Odym to seek help in their battle against the Manhunters. Unfortunately, the power-boosting effect of the Blue Lanterns has an unexpected (and unwanted) side effect on their enemies…the Manhunters.

Review:
Finally watched it and I love, love, loooooooooooove it. They explored so much with Razor and Aya; separately and together. Razor is just angry enough that a little bug will irritate him, but he has mellowed considerably since his early days. Aya is offended by Razor's "soulless machine" comment, but isn't so emotive that it comes off forced and unsubtle. Both of them behave logically at this point and I think it's tremendously good pacing.

I am glad they settled on Aya and how she defies herself and what she is capable of in comparison to the Manhunters. There's selective bias on her part, but she explains reasonably and it provides great insight to her character and growth. Also, her first emotion is love. I used to think Razor should have gotten a different Lantern ring after he conquers rage, but after seeing this episode, I think he should keep his Red Lantern Ring and channel it in a positive manner like he did here. He flipped out when Aya was hurt, but it's clear love was behind it; he just needs to fine tune it.

The other thing I noticed is the environment. Okay, I've noticed it in past episodes, but I don't think I ever discussed it. One of the things I love about this show is that they use their colors very well and very vibrantly. The palette of blue and violet in particular is absolutely gorgeous. This may be my favorite CGI series purely for the eye candy.
