Review
Justice League Unlimited once again takes a step back from the action to
introduce a more humor-based character in Booster Gold. Having supposedly
traveled back in time in order to become a superhero, he reeked of arrogance
and was unhappy with his position as the loser of the team.
As far as comparing it to the other episodes we’ve seen so far, it doesn’t
quite live up. Airing it so soon after the hilarious Kids Stuff hurt it no
doubt. The episode isn’t short on humor, but can’t compare to Green
Lantern’s immortal “I’ll make a lawn mower and chew him up!” line. It also
wasn’t wise to air it after Fearful Symmetry, as the questions from that
episode are still unresolved, no doubt leaving some fans thinking this
episode was a waste of time.
The common complaints of the episode are lack any sense of logic. We still
haven’t seen The Flash yet, but that’s no reason to downgrade an episode.
There’s also the complaint that we never saw the fight with Mordu, but
seeing as how this episode is about Booster Gold, it’s actually a really
stupid complaint.
Overall an enjoyable episode, but I can’t help but feel it’s not up to par
with the rest of the series, thus far. Hawk and Dove aside, Justice League
Unlimited has delivered fine episodes, whether we’re seeing Batman singing,
sampling the perfect gift for the man who has everything or listening to
Green Lantern threatening to create deadly lawnmowers. This episode
unfortunately, never really steps in their league. |
